Spring has sprung in Seattle!

I wasn’t going to climb Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak)

I wasn’t going to climb Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak). Everyone said you *had* to do it for the sunrise, and I’ve done those treks before. You get up after two hours of sleep and make the walk, only to arrive two hours early and huddle in the cold until the sunrise. I started at 2 a.m. and sure enough I reached the top two hours later, with another two hours to wait in the cold. But this one was special. A pilgrimage for people from four religions, there were people of all ages doing their best to climb the 5,500 steps to the top. Some people carried sleeping babies. Some were helping elderly family. It was a special experience, one I’m so glad I didn’t miss (and, yes, the sunrise was beautiful!). #srilanka #adamspeak #womenwhotravel #solofemaletraveler #mycalveskilledmeafter #travelgram

Friday morning, the start of the weekend in Maldives. Kids from a football club in Mahibadhoo played in the water after practice and a yellowfin tuna boat came to shore for the prayer service. By noon, the beach and the streets were empty.

I once saw an art exhibit in NYC called the color of water. I kept thinking of that name as I sat and stared at the colors of the water over and over again in the Maldives.

A baby shark 🎶... I had the song stuck in my head for days while staying at my first stop in the Maldives. The adorable baby reef sharks swam right at the shoreline through swarms of tiny fish, every now and then lunging at the fish and causing them to leap from the water while other bigger fish that followed the sharks jumped after them to catch what they could.
